Doctor Who and stuff

No updates on the actual real life stuff, though I need to redouble my getting-a-job efforts; poorness encroaches.

New Doctor Who pleases me. I really like that my nitpicks are now actually just nitpicks rather than omfg why are they doing this at all type issues. I am even willing to see where they are going to go with the Dalek 300ZX. It's a bit weird to have Amy winning the day so much but it hasn't pissed me off yet because Eleven's mistakes are all due to being Too Angsty so hopefully he will figure that out and Stop Being So Angsty. It also cracks me up that some fans are 'relived she hasn't got hots for Eleven' when it is in fact extremely clear she has got massive hots for Eleven. She's just not TELLING you like M.Jones did.

Dalek episode made me want to watch Power of the Daleks. Boo BBC Department Of Burning Cool Shit. We could have had video montages of Daleks pretending to be waitstaff.

Over in Big Finish Audio land, they just wrapped up Charley Pollard's Eight-then-Six-then-replaced-by-doppelganger-wait-what epic plotline. And Six has gone on to a new 3-story arc where he picks up Jamie Mc-fucking-Crimmon. The first part of that just came out and left me like WHAT needing way more plot resolution. So now I wait for next month. Everyone was brilliant in it, besides a couple of vaguely awkward YEAH SCOTLAND moments. I'm glad Colin's got enough acting chops to pull off the sort of dialog he gets in these things. XD

They set it long after 1750 so there's none of the awkward 'wait is Jamie still supposed to be 20' like there was in The Two Doctors. Instead they've added intentional 'wait what IS going on though' awkwardness, which presumably the story will eventually let us in on.

I haven't really dug the Seventh or Fifth Doctor stories lately though. My most recent favorite for Seven is still The Death Collectors. Cause that was super awesome spooky. And I'm really looking forward to the next few Five stories, with Turlough and Tegan :D

And I need to catch up on the other Two-era stuff from Big Finish, there's a bunch of Companion Chronicles and apparently about to be some Lost Episode stuff and these should ROOOOCK. Including a production of the unproduced ep where Jamie dresses in drag to impersonate evil lady guards. WIN.

Man, sometimes I am glad I don't hang out in Who-fandom. Are people SERIOUSLY that dense? My first complaint about Amy (other than "she has the same name as me and thus makes me feel weird") was "Oh god, yet another female companion who is using the Doctor to escape adult responsibilities/is clearly sweet on the Doctor".

I'm just a mean old Anti-Rose witch, though, because I am fond of Martha and totally want River Song to be the Doctor's wife. Not a lovey-dovey wife, just a...very British "they are sensible compatible people, so they got married" wife. Both RTD and Stephen Moffat are KILLING ME with their throwaway lines and teasing comments about the nature of their relationship.

You know, there was some #wiigii! discussion of Doctor Who and the number of female companions who are basically there to be eyecandy for the dads, and... I really miss the era of companions like Jamie. The era when the companion was not expected to be female and young and a potential romantic interest for the Doctor. Does the market no longer support a companion like that, or a situation where the Doctor can travel with someone without ZOMG RELATIONSHIP stuff going on?

(I know that officially Donna was such a companion, but I felt like there was an undercurrent of tension, so I can never really GENUINELY think of her as "just friends" with the Doctor.)

Aaanyhow. Daniel and I are eagerly awaiting the release of Ironsides Dalek with Tea Tray action figure. Because, apparently, we need a toy representation of every single Dalek ever.

I need to get back into BF: seem to have stopped doing the things which it was the habitual soundtrack to, so need to find new audiofriendly activities. I've missed a few Hex ones, after being v meh about the Florence Nightingale one, and I love the sound of the Six/Jamie stuff soooo much. And Five plus the whole gang, wheee! Cannot wait for some new Turlough v Tegan snark (though sincerely hope they remember to Give Nyssa Stuff To Do).

I love having Who back. That year of specials was miserable. Now it feels like 'what, we get a whole new one NEXT WEEK! EEEEE!'

Thanks! And yeah, I'm on the same page there, hoo boy. It does seem like they half-heartedly tried, with Mickey, and with that guy I can't remember cause he sucked... but it would be crazy fun to have a Tiger Beat-worthy male companion for the young ladyfans, to take the sexy tension spotlight off the poor Doctor. We've had freaking tons of 'omfg I must leave my sweetie for sexy Doctor' so I'd get a kick out of the OPPOSITE for once - 'omfg I must leave the Doctor for sexy companion!' and oh how fun it would be to have the Doctor ARGHing at lovey-dovey companion team (instead of secretly knowing She Likes Me Better You Poor Sod like when Mickey/Rose came along).

Seriously, I think Jamie was the last companion who had A Thing for a fellow companion (Victoria) to the point of having anything like an issue with having to decide what to do when she left the TARDIS.

Although I sometimes joke about the giant posse that the Fifth Doctor had (although I guess technically speaking the First Doctor had a pretty big group too), I really miss companions interacting with each other, and actually caring about each other. It's funny, the closest thing we have to that is Sarah Jane Adventures! (I guess the K-9 show also has a trio of teens, but I'm not sure they have the same rapport of the SJA crew.)

I'm too lazy to sign in. I like the new Doctor Who and I like Matt Smith but for some reason, I don't like his companion. I just hope that we see John Barrowman again during DW and hopefully Torchwood 4 coming out soon! Smith's new companion somewhat irritates me and sometimes annoys me. I like it better when it was Donna who was his last companion during the season. Even Donna's own granddad would have been better. I think it would have been better if the Eleventh Doctor had taken Amy Pond when she was 7. That would been awesome as we hadn't seen a child as his companion yet.

BTW, when are you going to update "Building Coincidence?" It's been like months! I've been checking every time and haven't updated!
