Lith's Adventures In Time And Space
Jan. 27th, 2004 09:27 pmHere be a chronicle of my recent semi-adventures.
1) Bitch and Moan (Lith's Worst Day In Forever)
I was scheduled to go to Orlando for a toy convention there my work was putting on - about a two hour drive. At the last minute, the guy I was supposed to ride with got sick. My own car needed an oil change badly. By the time I got it back with fresh oil, it was getting dark. Oh, and did I mention my car's fuel injectors were also spitting gas out onto the hot innards of my car? I stowed a fire extinguisher in the passenger seat just in case.
I headed out onto the highway. The traffic became godawful within half an hour and stayed godawful the rest of the way up. And it rained. And when I got there I got lost for half an hour, mostly due to bad/lack of directions. And I lost control of the car several times on the slick-ass roads, but managed not to hit anything.
By the time I got there, I'd been on the road for four hours. I missed helping to set up, and I missed the swank dinner the boss bought everyone. The convention owner, one of my semi-bosses, was there, though, and she made me feel better and sent me out with some money for my dinner.
I thanked the Denny's people profusely for not going wrong in any way.
Then I went to the hotel and they wouldn't let me check in without putting my own credit card up for confirmation or whatever. And then some of the other folks got back from dinner and it turned out I was in the wrong room and had to move. The room I moved to was DAMP. Ugh. Very uncomfortable.
Everything after that was fine though. I even got a lucky trade; a bag of great Transformer parts from a dealer sick of TFs was vetted for bits I actually needed and then given to a TF parts dealer in trade for a bag full of 8-bit Nintendo games.
8-bit Nintendo games are HARD AS SHIT. I will be cashing in on this 8-bit craze soon, before everyone else fully realises this.
2) Going Home
A few weekends after that, my car had eaten a lot of my money and had shiny new fuel injectors, and so I drove it home to visit my folks. My dad's a huge fan of catamaran sailboats, the kind that look like canvas stretched between two hulls. He took me out sailing for a while. Mom stayed on shore and took pictures; she used to sail a lot and she's tired of it.
Fun was had, and I grabbed a few boxes of My Cool Shit from storage in my ex-closet to take back to Sarasota. I even still have my old (what, 4-bit?) Atari. Joust rules all. Screw you, 8-bit Nintendo.
