Sorry to hear about your lay off. (Remember, always use the word "lay off" not "fired.")

That said, it could be a blessing in disguise. I thought getting laid off in December was one of the worse things that could have happened to me, but it only positioned me to better my career, improve my personal life, sucker my old employer for a severance package larger than any bonus they would have given me, and avoid the general malaise and unhappiness that currently coats my former workplace. In the end, getting laid off was the best thing to happen to me in a long while.

It may seem bad now, but with a little perseverance you can find a way to make it work for you. Good luck!
